Anxiety happens when your brain can't predict what comes next.
Patterns eliminate uncertainty by giving your brain repeatable shortcuts. Instead of processing every junction, every roundabout, every lane change from scratch, your brain recognizes the situation and says:

(What to notice) Teach your brain where to look, in the same order, every time. Example: Mirror → Road Ahead → Junction → Speed This removes randomness and builds confidence.
⚙️ Action Patterns
(What to do) Step-by-step behaviours for specific situations. Example (Approaching a roundabout): Slow → Mirror → Signal → Position → Decide → Move Same sequence. Every time. No guessing.

Then, in 2019, everything flipped. Driving a bus through unfamiliar streets in Portugal, I felt the same fear my students had described for decades:
